6 Months Old

Today at your 6 month check-up you were 27 1/4 inches long and weighed 18 lbs 11 ozs, both are 75th percentile. Your head was in the 50th percentile. You are wearing a size 3 diaper and sleep in a size 4 after numerous nights of changing sheets. You eat 3 meals a day and take 4-5 bottles. We have introduced sweet potatoes, bananas, sweet peas, squash, pears, green beans, peaches, carrots, apples, rice and oatmeal. You would eat your weight in sweet potatoes if I would let you.

You sleep from 8:30 to 7:30 most nights. You are a very happy little one. You enjoy playing on the floor in your room with your toys. However, I have to watch you very closely or you will end up down the hall in the bathroom which is how I found you this morning after leaving you just to put in my contacts and make the bed. You watch praise baby each afternoon while I have my quiet time. I enjoy these sweet moments of worship with you.

You will happily go with anyone who will hold you. I mentioned to your Daddy that every Sunday when I go to pick you up from the nursery after church you are usually the only baby not being held. I discovered that you are always the one on the floor playing because you are very content to just play by yourself. I remember when you were born and you stayed in the nursery the first night. Your nurse brought you to our room that next morning and told us that when she came in to work that morning all of the babies in the nursery were crying and you were just lying there looking around. Content like your Daddy from day one ;)

My most favorite thing is that you give wide-mouth-slobbery kisses...it melts my heart every time. Have I mentioned that I love you?

Bread of heaven, broken for me

This morning in church I was totally overwhelmed by God's goodness to me. Somewhere in the middle of a thought-provoking sunday school lesson about His will, holiness and righteousness to the choir singing a beautiful version of How Great Thou Art? I started to ponder the Cross and how Jesus suffered for me. It was one of those moments when you can feel the presence of God surrounding you. This thought came to my mind, can you imagine your precious Luke on a cross suffering for the sins of the world? He did this for you...

The price Jesus paid has never been more real to me.

Sweet Jesus Christ my sanity
Sweet Jesus Christ my clarity
Bread of heaven, broken for me
Cup of salvation held up to drink
Jesus the Mystery

Dear Luke,

Half of a year, seriously? Where does the time go? Six months ago today {10.24.09} I gave birth to you, our sweet baby boy. In the past six months I have loved deeper than I ever knew was capable. It hasn't been an easy road but it has been filled with joy.

Sometimes I look at you and can't believe that just a few months ago I could feel you inside of me. It is still a miracle to me that God created you inside of me and today you are here with so much personality. Words will never suffice to tell of my love for you. Lukeman, Chunkey Monkey, Baby Wuke, Silly Willy...you are everything and more that your Daddy and I prayed for.

First Kiss

Luke has become quite the ladies man. A few weeks ago one of the baseball player's little sister came and got Luke during a game and he pretty much flirted with her the whole game. Now she comes and gets him each game and he sits with all of the precious high school girls. Last Friday he missed meal time by an hour...if you know anything about my little chunk you know he doesn't miss his chance to eat. Derek told me after the game he told his players that Luke Irons was "the man" since he was right in the middle of all of their girls :)

Saturday we went to Greenville to scout the team we will be playing this Friday. I sat my two guys up in the shade, Derek in his chair with his clipboard and stopwatch and Luke beside him in his stroller with his elephant. I of course turned the other way to get a good angle on the sun. I am certain I looked like a crazy person at the ballpark turned the opposite direction of the game but a girls gotta do what she can to get a suntan. We happened to sit close to the Greenville coach's wife and daughter who is 15 months old. She was intrigued by baby "Wuke" and shared all of her toys with him. At one point she decided to kiss him...several times. On the way home Luke was passed out in his car seat and Derek said, "tough day, first kiss and all."

Scooting Baby

I started taking this video to showcase Luke's scooting skills. However, it turned into a typical silly Luke moment. I had to share anyway...and you can kind of tell he is scooting. Usually it is a lot faster than this.

Luke Stories

How bad of a mother does it make me that I can't remember the last time Luke had a bath? I know he sat in the water on Sunday I just can't remember if I cleaned him. He has really dry skin and Dr. Roy told me to only wash him every two days. Since bath is part of his bedtime routine we have been sticking him in the water regardless if we clean him. Well, he hasn't been in his tub since Sunday so let's hope that was a cleaning day.

We have been so busy lately with baseball and then last night we went to the Troy/Auburn baseball game. He has been sleeping much better, in fact, last night he slept from 8-5. It's amazing what a good night's sleep will do for you.

Content, happy and chill are the three words I've used to describe Luke since he was born. We are coming off a 3 week period where that has not been the case. Naptime and bedtime were especially dreadful. He would kick and scream fighting the sleep and then if he woke up you had to start all over. I took him to the doctor last week to check his ears because he was congested, running a low grade fever and pulling on his ears. He was fine- just teething (but we still have no teeth). I discussed with the doctor his sleeping issues and we talked through when he naps, how I put him down, etc. Let's just say this type A momma was watching the clock too much. He reccommended me trying to just wear him out until he couldn't stand it anymore. This has worked wonders (so simple, why didn't I think of this?). I just wear him out and he goes right to sleep without fussing at all. The other day I was in the bedroom making the bed and he was in his jump-up in the kitchen. I realized he got quiet and when I went to check on him he was asleep in the jump-up. Last night he fell asleep sitting up at the baseball game. I am so glad he is back to his old self.

He absolutely loves to go places. He starts laughing and kicking his feet when I put him in his car seat. I'm pretty sure this is because he gets extra attention when we are out and about. He loves attention. He even has a fake laugh and cough for when he gets forgotten.

He is moving all over the place. This is where I wish I had carpeted floors. I can lay a huge blanket down and turn away for 2 minutes and he has managed to roll 3 feet off the blanket onto the hardwood. He isn't as good about rolling from his tummy to his back so sometimes he gets stuck and will fuss until you come roll him back over.

He is trying really hard to sit-up. He can sit up and stay there for a few minutes but eventually will topple over. When he is in his stroller he has learned if he grabs the cup holder in front of him he can stay sitting up so he will sit holding on for 10 minutes. I told Derek I think his mind is ahead of his body developmentally. It's either that or he is determined to do something when he makes up his mind he is going to do it. He gets mad if he can't do something he wants to do.

This morning we were lying in the bed and he started to scream. I looked over at him and he had his paci in his mouth backwards long ways which caused his mouth to be stuck wide open. It took me a minute to calm him down. Yesterday he was rubbing his eyes and stuck his finger in his eye and started screaming. It's so funny to me.

I read somewhere that they are 7 months before they recognize themselves in a mirror. Not sure if this is true but if so, Luke has a baby friend here at the house that he loves to laugh with. Everytime I put him in front of a mirror he waves his hands around, smiles and laughs with excitement...very sweet!

I love him so much more than there is room to write on this blog.
